International Rescue Committee New Jersey Workers Unionize With Local 32
Today, more than 90% of the workers at the International Rescue Committee (IRC) office in Elizabeth, New Jersey officially requested voluntary recognition of their union with OPEIU Local 32. Their unionization follows a nationwide explosion of unionization at IRC offices with OPEIU locals. The following is a statement from the workers at the Elizabeth office celebrating going public about their unionization efforts:
“We the workers at the International Rescue Committee, New Jersey office have joined together with a profound sense of purpose to unionize with OPEIU Local 32. We care deeply about our humanitarian mission and believe that forming a union is the best way to make improvements for ourselves and our clients. We are excited to join in solidarity with other IRC offices that have unionized nationwide including Atlanta, Abilene, Dallas, Denver, New York City, San Jose, Oakland, and Turlock offices.”
