OPEIU Local 32 Political Committee
Across Local 32, members’ work, their lives, and their wallets are constantly affected by political decisions. Hundreds of Local 32 members working in New Jersey’s public sector have seen their health insurance premiums rise over 30% for 2026. Local 32 members in Philadelphia have been denied sick leave due to laws discriminating against union members. Abrupt changes to government grants have left Local 32 members at some non-profits facing layoff. All of these decisions are ones that we had no voice in, where our lives were not represented.
On January 15th, 2026 at the Biannual Membership Meeting, OPEIU Local 32 voted to establish a political committee to have a voice representing members’ interests and needs. If others cannot effectively represent us in the political arena, then we must represent ourselves. This committee will be set up this year for members who contribute to OPEIU’s JB Moss Voice of the Electorate Political fund to decide how and what we will fight for in the political arena. Our strength is in our membership, and our political power comes from our ability to mobilize towards whatever political goal members decide through their political committee.
The committee’s membership (those who pay political dues) will democratically discussion decide political campaigns, actions, etc but all political endorsements, statements, and actions are subject to the approval of the Local 32 Executive Board.
Membership dues cannot be used for political purposes, so to participate in the committee you must sign up for political dues separate from your union dues. The amount is whatever you want to give per paycheck, minimum $0.01, suggested at least $1.00.
