Dallas, Texas -- The Professional Helicopter Pilots Association International (PHPA), a council of the Office and Professional Employees International Union (OPEIU), is proud to announce its pilot member, Captain Jay Slagel has been awarded the Helicopter Association International (HAI) Pilot of the Year award. The award was given at HAI’s Heli-Expo 2012, held February 12-14 in Dallas Texas.
The Professional Helicopter Pilots Association International (PHPA), a council of the Office and Professional Employees International Union (OPEIU), AFL-CIO, elected Steven Rush to serve as president at its board meeting in Dallas, Texas on February 12, 2012. OPEIU represents approximately 3,000 helicopter pilots throughout the United States and Canada.

Emergency Medical Service (EMS) helicopter pilots, members of Office and Professional Employees (OPEIU [1]) Local 109 [2] and employed by Air Methods Corporation based in Denver, have ratified a new agreement. The 1,000 pilots operate in 45 states and transport nearly 100,000 patients a year. AMC is the nation’s largest provider of air medical emergency transport services and systems.

Nearly 400 workers at HealthNow New York, who have been locked out of their jobs for more than 12 weeks, ratified a new three-year union contract Wednesday, providing for them to return to work by Aug. 1, after a negotiated, paid two-week vacation.
The Oct. 31 deadline is fast approaching for public sector employees to apply for student loan relief through the U.S. Department of Education's Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program.
Many OPEIU members work for "public service employers," which includes many nonprofits, and are thus eligible to take advantage of temporary changes that make it easier to qualify for loan forgiveness under the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program.
